Welcome to the Making of you, and this is episode 49, five ways to dissolve Procrastination.
I'm Alexandria and I'm the founder of Your Transformation Hub and the Mastery Project. And I aim with these podcasts to help you harness your unique potential, the tools for purpose and personal empowerment, and of course, having fun becoming the architect of your own life.
Okay, let's dive in. So number one of the five ways is you are in a creative cul de sac when you're in the state of procrastination. Well, what do I mean by that? Well, I think we can all attest that procrastination is that place where we'd have a lot of dreams or a lot of things that we want to do, but we're kind of holding ourselves back or arguing with ourselves or generally not getting it done, finding something else to do to put in the place of it.
Now, number one, why does this happen?
Very simple answer. Because we're predominantly in our heads, not in our hearts. So what do I mean by that? Well, when I talk about being in your head, I talk about the administrator of the physical aspects of our life. So who runs that? Our ego runs that. So what our ego wants is it wants everything under control. It wants everything within linear time. It wants to help us be very much the physical aspect of ourselves.
But being physical and day to day management of physical tasks and getting results etc is only one part of us. And if we want to create new in our life, then of course we're going to need to embrace our heart to be able to connect with the infinite energy that is going to bring the immaterial energy into the creative grounded results and experiences that we want in our daily life.
So why is ego holding us to ransom in our heads? Well, ego is, imagine like a sport brat. He wants or she wants, whatever way you want to look at it, a piece of our energy.
Now the problem is with ego is ego has a lot of power, tripping sort of ideas about itself. And it thinks that to be honest, the physical world is the best thing and every other aspect of ourselves is pretty irrelevant. And so ego wants to create states of being, to scatter and to make our energy go into ego rather than into an expansive and progressively unlimiting experience.
So if you are in procrastination, then you're definitely in your head, all right? You're hanging around in your ego and your ego's sort of asking you endless reasons why you can't do things and perpetuating the denial of your incredible and unique creativity.
So it's a kind of off stage left misdirect of your energy and often it is accompanied with projecting into the future, so tying you up in knots and worrying about what could happen and all the what, what ifs that could be in our world.
So what I want you to do in number one is recognize you're in your head, all right? And the simplest thing you can say to yourself is that you're choosing to regroup all of your energy and your alignment moving back into your heart. Because that's where the unlimited energy flow is flowing. It is flowing through your heart center first and foremost.
And what happens is to be able to use a hundred percent of your creative resources. You're not going to achieve it by simply rushing to your head and worrying about what the creativity could be. You need energy, all right? You need energy to create, whatever the experience, whatever the result, whatever the form that you want.
So simply shortcut your own ego and say to yourself, I am choosing to balance and stabilize with the unlimited flow of energy moving through my heart center. All right? So the portal of the intern infinite is your heart, it's not your head. Yes. Your head can then administrate what you dream, what you truly are choosing, or what you're working out that you're choosing, but your head can't, all right? So don't drain your energy by getting straight into your head and bashing yourself up with all those what ifs that goes wrong or what if that doesn't happen, or I don't know how to do xyz. You need energy first and foremost to get yourself out of the creative cul de sac.
Okay? Number two, right? One of the best ways also to short circuit procrastination is to get yourself out of an over adrenalized, scattered or, or a state of being where we're lacking clarity.
Often with procrastination, people just kind of panic and are over stimulated and as a result they become mentally a little bit incapable of calming to listen to their intuition. They're in a voice actually just listen to their own energy, their own frequency and resonance about what they want to create. So you can imagine that isn't going to be a very aligned place. And we know that if you want to be creative and you want to do it in a relatively flowful way, then you do need harmony, balance, and you do need that sense of personal silence where you can hear what you truly want.
So number two, if you feel yourself sort of dashing around panicking or trying to do a million things at once, Then that actually can also be a form of procrastination. Because you're filling your life with a lot of extra. Doing kind of detail, superficial things, or shouldery, as I call it, affectionate, pleasing other people, or doing things that you think you should do.
And as a result, you're not actually in the centered, harmonious connectedness with your creativity. And that, again, can become exhausting because you're going, I always want to get there, but I don't get there because I've got all these other things. And unfortunately, you've got all those other things because you're not in your center, essentially linking in and aligning with what you truly want.
So it's a very easy aspect. To stop scattering your energy and stop having that sense of exhaustion or a sense of never getting somewhere Is to invest in the clarity and centeredness and listening to yourself calmly and finding that harmony.
Okay, number three. Well, a lot of people don't really understand responsibility. And a lot of people translate responsibility into obligation. And that's what can also start birthing a degree of procrastination. Because when we feel that we're obliged to do something, often there's a little bit of mini rebellion. Because a lot of obligations in today's societies might be questioned as to whether they're still useful or whether they are actually shoring up and contributing to strengthening the consciousness of ourselves, or whether they're just for tradition or just for other people, or literally don't really have much mean.
So with the current trend of Pluto and Aquarius, we're getting a lot of those traditional values being questioned. So responsibility, I'd like to just define that very clearly as a state of being. It is literally and simply the capacity to respond. And if you want to dissolve procrastination, then again, you want to be able to take responsibility, of course, for the thing, the experience, the state of being, the form that you actually want to create. And so to do this, you're going to need to take responsibility.
Now, it's simpler than we think, because, again, if you want to respond, where does that happen? It happens in your heart center. So a lot of people are going, I know what I want. I know what I want. But actually, again, they're not in that infinite flow of creative potentiality which flows through your heart. So they're not actually energizing that state of responsibility.
So the key to responsibility is starting your heart. And the key to commitment is starting your heart. All right, don't start in your head.
Start in your heart and say, how do I want to feel when I'm taking responsibility for this experience, this form, what I'm. You know, I've been procrastinating about, how do I want to feel in the fulfilling sense, Do I want to feel joy? Do I want to feel success? Do I want to feel prosperous? All of those particular questions. But first and foremost, remember that responsibility starts in the heart and then it gets administrated in the head.
Okay, Number four. Well, we do also have ego being, as I said, a grand attention seeker. So it does rather love to have our company. 24 7.
So what ego will do to keep us in the head is to start a dialogue. Often that is perhaps irrelevant, like I've spoken about in number two. Sort of scattering our energy, sort of diluting focus, or a dialogue of inner critic. Okay, criticism.
And that can often bring us to a frequency of energy where we sort of start connecting outside of ourselves also with people who are pessimistic or who are negative.
And so the naysayers kind of join up with that voice in our head, the inner critic in our head, and they start to create sort of a loop of reasons to not do things, which, of course, fuels procrastination.
So to break that loop again, you need to go into yourself and say, I am choosing to embrace supportive qualities in my life.
So if you're in a bit of a haze about what you want, then you're going to be saying, I am embracing clarity. I'm embracing peace within myself. I am listening to my inner guidance or my inner intuition as to what you truly want.
Now, once you've got that, yes, you can still, you know, dissolve into procrastination in some ways, because then you go into your head. So stop there and then say to yourself, before you combine your heart and mind, say to yourself, how do I want to feel when I create this particular experience?
So connect those two things. And if you do hear yourself going, oh, you're crap, you're useless, you're not worthy, it's not going to work. Who are you kidding?
Then again, say to yourself, how on earth is that dialogue going to help me? And it simply isn't helping, all right? And if it's not helping, guess what? The origin is bound to be the ego and our limited voice, our limited self that simply wants us to not expand, not transform, not actually see the greater dimensions of ourselves, but stick inside the box and just do same old, same old and get stuck in things that perhaps are no longer fulfilling for us.
So Procrastination is one of those cycles that is fed very successfully by the inner critic and controlled very successfully by our ego. So if you want to stop the procrastination, just again, think or listen and say, the inner voice, is that supportive and unconditionally loving, or is it actually dragging me down? And if it's dragging you down, it's the inner critic and you need to stop listening. Very simply.
Okay, number five.
Well, a lot of people say to me, I'm not procrastinating. It's just not working.
Now, there is a fine line between those two things as far as I'm concerned. Creativity is a constant path of adaptation as long as you know your personal truth and you have a foundation that is heart and mind aligned. So heart first, being energized, being now, and being balanced in what you want. And also realizing that part of the creative journey is indeed not procrastination, but it is the other P word, patience. All right, so it's the ability to allow things to fall into place. Now, this is a really tough one. And a lot of people think that they're allowing things to fall into place when actually they're procrastinating.
So the question I would like to end with for you to ask yourself is if you do genuinely and authentically believe you've done everything to create what you are, you know, attempting to birth into your life the dream that you want to experience, then yes, if you could tick all of those aspects off on that list and say, I have truly done everything and I've sort of run out. I can't do any more. I go fab. Be impatience, Wait for everything to align. Because the universe doesn't work in linear logic. It works in infinite ways.
So it could come quicker than you think, it can come slower than you think. It doesn't matter about timing. It's allowance of that cosmic alignment given, of course, that you've taken the efforts and clarified clearly and shown the universe, your creative collaboration, the matrix that you want energized and you've worked upon.
Now, a lot of people do have kind of a bit of a exaggerated perception these days about creativity, that it's got to be sort of super big and live large or highly polarized or some big rush.
So I often say to people, please calm. All right? Now, I know it sounds a bit limiting, but I use the phrase doable dreams because a lot of people want to be, let's say, the millionaire in five minutes.
And I think if everyone looks out there, it's about doing what you love first. And it is then going to be a foundation of endless prosperity because you are in the infinite place of doing what you love.
So the key is not to have huge expectations because that is a big way to fall into procrastination.
So to go, I'm going to do this, I'm going to be a millionaire tomorrow.
And to have aspects that are so imbalanced that number one, energetically, they can't be energized because they're so far out of your center. Not because you're not capable of it, but because you need the steps to arrive at your rise or your success.
And however long they take depends on alignment. Okay? And I agree some people can become overnight millionaires, but they don't talk about the 10 years or the 20 years that they spent prior to that doing what they love, building it and building the foundation of unlimited prosperity.
So find that line between am I putting it off or have I truly honoured everything and I'm being patient. And also if you want to make commitments with yourself by making a little mini contract about what you want or putting dates in your diary, writing it down, physically listing your progress, encouraging yourself or making contracts with other people to make sure you stay on track.
Okay, well it's been my pleasure today to help you dissolve procrastination.
